If you wait for me Then I'll come for you Although I've traveled far I always hold a place for you in my heart If you think of me If you miss me once in a while Then I'll return to you I'll return and fill that space in your heart Remembering Your touch Your kiss Your warm embrace I'll find my way back to you If you'll be waiting If you dream of me Like I dream of you In a place that's warm and dark In a place where I can feel the beating of your heart Remembering Your touch Your kiss Your warm embrace I'll find my way back to you If you'll be waiting Oh, I've longed for you And I have desired To see your face, your smile To be with you wherever you are Remembering Your touch Your kiss Your warm embrace I'll find my way back to you Please say you'll be waiting Together again It would feel so good to be In your arms Where all my journeys end If you can make a promise If it's one that you can keep I vow to come for you If you wait for me And say you'll hold A place for me In your heart

Just before our love got lost you said I am as constant as a northern star and I said, Constantly in the darkness Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar On the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada Oh Canada With your face sketched on it twice Oh you are in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter And so sweet oh I could drink a case of you darling and I would Still be on my feet Oh I would still be on my feet Oh I am a lonely painter I live in a box of paints I'm frightened by the devil And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid I remember that time that you told me, you said "Love is touching souls" Surely you touched mine 'cause Part of you pours out of me In these lines from time to time Oh you are in my blood like holy wine You taste so bitter And so sweet oh I could drink a case of you darling Still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet I met a woman She had a mouth like yours, she knew your life She knew your devils and your deeds and she said "Go to him stay with him if you can But be prepared to bleed" Oh but you are in my blood you're my holy wine You're so bitter bitter and so sweet oh I could drink a case of you darling Still I'd be on my feet I would still be on my feet

If today was not a crooked highway If tonight was not a crooked trail If tomorrow wasn't such a long time Then lonesome would mean nothing to you at all Yes and only if my own true love was waitin' And if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin' Yes, only if she was lyin' by me Then I'd lie in my bed once again I can't see my reflection in the waters I can't speak the sounds that show no pain I can't hear the echo of my footsteps Or remember the sound of my own name Yes, and only if my own true love was waitin' And if I could hear her heart a-softly poundin' Yes and only if she was lyin' by me Then I'd lie in my bed once again There's beauty in the silver, singin' river There's beauty in the sunrise in the sky But none of these and nothing else can touch the beauty That I remember in my true love's eyes Yes and only if my own true love was waitin' I could hear her heart a softly poundin' Yes and only if she was lyin' by me Then I'd lie in my bed once again

The book of love is long and boring No one can lift the damn thing It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing but I I love it when you read to me and you you can read me anything The book of love has music in it In fact that's where music comes from Some of it is just transcendental Some of it is just really dumb but I I love it when you sing to me and you you can sing me anything The book of love is long and boring and written very long ago It's full of flowers and heart-shaped boxes and things we're all too young to know but I I love it when you give me things and you you ought to give me wedding rings

Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can Your beauty is beyond compare With flaming locks of auburn hair With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green Your smile is like a breath of spring Your voice is soft like summer rain And I cannot compete with you, Jolene He talks about you in his sleep And there's nothing I can do to keep From crying when he calls your name, Jolene But I can easily understand How you could easily take my man But you don't know what he means to me, Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can You could have your choice of men But I could never love again He's the only one for me, Jolene I had to have this talk with you My happiness depends on you And whatever you decide to do, Jolene Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him just because you can Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take him even though you can Jolene, Jolene

Come on skinny love just last the year Pour a little salt we were never here My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer I tell my love to wreck it all Cut out all the ropes and let me fall My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my Right in the moment this order's tall And I told you to be patient And I told you to be fine And I told you to be balanced And I told you to be kind And in the morning I'll be with you But it will be a different kind And I'll be holding all the tickets And you'll be owning all the fines Come on skinny love, what happened here? Suckle on the hope in light brassieres My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my Sullen load is full, so slow on the split And I told you to be patient And I told you to be fine And I told you to be balanced And I told you to be kind And now all your love is wasted And then who the hell was I? And I'm breaking at the britches And at the end of all your lines Who will love you? Who will fight? Who will fall far behind?

Baby, can't you see I'm calling A guy like you Should wear a warning It's dangerous I'm fallin' There's no escape I can't wait I need a hit Baby, give me it You're dangerous I'm lovin' it Too high Can't come down Losing my head Spinning 'round and 'round Do you feel me now With a taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slipping under With a taste of poison paradise I'm addicted to you Don't you know that you're toxic And I love what you do Don't you know that you're toxic It's getting late To give you up I took a sip From my devil cup Slowly It's taking over me Too high Can't come down It's in the air And it's all around Can you feel me now With a taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slipping under With a taste of poison paradise I'm addicted to you Don't you know that you're toxic And I love what you do Don't you know that you're toxic Don't you know that you're toxic Taste of my lips and having fun With a taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slipping under With a taste of poison paradise I'm addicted to you Don't you know that you're toxic And I love what you do Don't you know that you're toxic With a taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slipping under With a taste of poison paradise I'm addicted to you Don't you know that you're toxic And I love what you do Don't you know that you're toxic I'm intoxicated now I think you'll love it now I think I'm ready now I think I'm ready now I'm intoxicated now I think you'll love it now I think I'm ready now

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood When blackness was a virtue the road was full of mud I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm And if I pass this way again, you can rest assured I'll always do my best for her, on that I give my word In a world of steel-eyed death, and men who are fighting to be warm Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm Not a word was spoke between us, there was little risk involved Everything up to that point had been left unresolved Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm I was burned out from exhaustion, buried in the hail Poisoned in the bushes an' blown out on the trail Hunted like a crocodile, ravaged in the corn Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm Suddenly I turned around and she was standin' there With silver bracelets on her wrists and flowers in her hair She walked up to me so gracefully and took my crown of thorns Come in, she said I'll give ya shelter from the storm (only these lyrics are covered- song contains more verses)

I took my love, I took it down Climbed a mountain and I turned around And I saw my reflection in the snow covered hills 'Til the landslide brought it down Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life? I don't know... Well, I've been afraid of changin' 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older, too So take this love, and take it down Oh if you climb a mountain and you turn around And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down And if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills Well the landslide will bring it down Oh, the landslide will bring it down

Blackbird singing in the dead of night take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise Blackbird singing in the dead of night take these sunken eyes and learn to see All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free Black-bird fly Black-bird fly, into the light of a dark black night Black-bird fly Black-bird fly, into the light of a dark black night Blackbird singing in the dead of night take these broken wings and learn to fly All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise you were only waiting for this moment to arise you were only waiting for this moment to arise

Oh, I'm sailin' away, my own true love I'm sailin' away in the morning Is there something I can send you from across the sea From the place that I'll be landing? No, there's nothin' you can send me, my own true love There's nothin' I wish to be ownin' Just carry yourself back to me unspoiled From across that lonesome ocean Oh, but I just thought you might want something fine Made of silver or of golden Either from the mountains of Madrid Or from the coast of Barcelona But if I had the stars from the darkest night And the diamonds from the deepest ocean I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss For that's all I'm wishin' to be ownin' But I might be gone a long old time And it's only that I'm askin' Is there something I can send you to remember me by? To make your time more easy-passin' Oh, how can, how can you ask me again? It only brings me sorrow The same thing I want today I would want again tomorrow Oh, I got a letter on a lonesome day It was from her ship a-sailin' Saying I don't know when I'll be comin' back again It depends on how I'm a-feelin' If you, my love, must think that-a-way I'm sure your mind is roamin' I'm sure your heart is not with me But with the country to where you're goin' So take heed, take heed of the western winds Take heed of the stormy weather And yes, there's something you can send back to me Spanish boots of Spanish leather
12.
Come away with me in the night Come away with me And I will write you a song Come away with me on a bus Come away where they can't tempt us, with their lies And I want to walk with you On a cloudy day In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high So won't you try to come Come away with me and we'll kiss On a mountaintop Come away with me And I'll never stop loving you And I want to wake up with the rain Falling on a tin roof While I'm safe there in your arms So all I ask is for you To come away with me in the night Come away with me

about

A few days after the election, I heard from a good friend who lives across the great lakes, prairies, and mountains in Alberta, Canada. Extending love from across the border, she told me a story about her daughter and my tiniest fan, Aurelia. With the heartache of the election settling into the bones of people the world over, Aurelia listened to her mom sing one of their favorite songs. Aurelia looked at her mom and said, "Mama: sing bigger!"

So she did.

With these two simple words, three year-old Aurelia helped me see our heartbreak as an opportunity for light to seep in.

I am excited to be releasing this album of cover songs, and am inspired to use this as an opportunity to raise money for an increasingly important cause. All proceeds from the sale of the album will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization whose mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States."
